Bye Bye DirecTV

With the transition to digital TV I began to reevaluate out TV situation. After we moved to our house I had intended to take down the antenna from the roof but I just never got around to it. Well, that turned out to be a good thing.

Now that all stations in our area are broadcasting in digital I decided to give it a try and see what channels we could receive. With only minor adjustments I was able to get all the major broadcast networks as well as quite a few other stations. Since most of the shows we watch are on the networks we decided it was time to stop paying for TV.

Now, we have grown quite accostum to using our TiVo for watching TV on our schedule, but since it all the TiVos that we had were only for use with DirecTV it was time to purchase a new TiVo. And, as a bonus the new TiVo has two digital tuners so we can still record two different shows at the same time. That also means that since our TV doesn’t have a built in digital tuner we wouldn’t need a converter box either.

Well, after having to return the first one they sent because it was DOA I’ve finally got the new TiVo HD all set up. I’ve even removed the satilite dish and we are ready to say goodbye to DirecTV after a eight year relationship. I’m sure there are se things I’ll miss but the bill won’t be one of them.
